The fight over who controls the AI shopper is intensifying

Amazon recently blocked Meta’s Muse shopping agent from shopping on Amazon. Amazon says Muse’s access wasn’t authorized and raised issues around agent identification and credentials; Meta disputes some of those claims.
That’s what we have been talking about in the previous articles: AI shopping isn’t simply another traffic source.
The emerging battle is:
Marketplace → wants to control product discovery
versus
AI agent → wants to control the customer’s shopping journey.
That could eventually affect sponsored product economics too. If an AI agent selects three products before a shopper enters Amazon, some traditional marketplace advertising opportunities disappear.
For sellers, this makes external product discoverability increasingly important alongside marketplace SEO.
